In February 2020, a group of Tulsa musicians revisited Leon Russell’s famed Paradise Studio at Grand Lake and recorded the first album there since 1978.  The space as been preserved by Tulsan, Rick Huskey, who has spent the last 30 years cleaning things up, honoring the history, and preparing for this new chapter.  Walking in the space for the first time, you are immediately awestruck.   The vibe is still alive.  Driving the narrow, winding road to reach the compound, provided a time of reflection for those involved.   Realizing that some of the biggest names in the history of American music had traveled this same path many years before, was both inspiring and daunting.  17 tracks were recorded over the course of 4 days – mostly live, with very few overdubs.  While there was a core group of players throughout the session, a grand total of 20 Tulsa musicians participated in the recording.  The Oklahoma songs curated for recording represent the famous to the obscure, and everything in-between.  This is a document to honor those that came before and made it possible for Tulsa musicians to have an identity and music scene today.   Thank you to Leon for blazing a trail and building this lake palace.  Thank you to all Oklahoma musicians over the years that have been role models through their authenticity and spirit of community.  This record is dedicated to them.  Back To Paradise:  A Tulsa Tribute to Okie Music.
