Released in 1978, The Last Waltz, was a music documentary filmed and directed by Martin Scorsese. Considered one of the best concert documentaries ever made, the movie features the last concert (by the same name) of the Canadian-American rock group, The Band, which was held on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1976, San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom. The Band (musicians Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel & Robbie Robertson) was joined by more than a dozen special guests, including Ronnie Hawkins, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris Dr John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr, Muddy Waters and Neil Young. Song performances include “Up on Cripple Creek,” “Ophelia,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” and “The Weight.”
